OAK 1868 was born at the intersection of pride and inspiration. Our company boasts pride as we honor the year 1868 in which Hampton University, a distinguished HBCU, was founded. Inspiration includes the history behind one of the 10 Great Trees of The World, The Emancipation Oak. It's presence on the campus of Hampton University (the REAL HU) illuminates black culture as not just an early classroom for freed slaves to gain education but also served as the location of the first reading in The South of The Emancipation Proclamation.
